Popular Salthill structure, Blackrock diving tower, will be given a new lease of life thanks to a fresh coat of paint and some much-needed TLC.
Standing tall out in Salthill, the Blackrock diving tower is one of Galway’s most well-recognised landmarks. A popular spot with locals and sea-swimmers (both regular and fair-weather swimmers), Galway City Council (GCC) has confirmed that the tower will be getting a bit of a new lick of paint in coming weeks.
Saying that the structure looked “shoddy” in recent photographs, councillors are now looking to appoint a painting contractor to get the tower back to its former glory.
Completely exposed to the elements, the tower is discoloured after having braved many a Salthill storm, however, local councillor Clodagh Higgins has reiterated the importance of maintaining the facility – especially during summer months as domestic tourism to the area increases.
Works are due to be carried out before the end of July so make sure to keep an eye out for ‘wet paint’ signs on your next visit lest you end up with a new multicoloured tattoo yourself.
