Opening date announced for Limerick Greenway!

Fiona Frawley

It’s an exciting day for staycationers and Limerick locals as a greenway through the historic countryside will open this Thursday!

Limerick City and County Councils have been undertaking major works to bring the route to the highest standards, just in time for what will hopefully be a sunny weekend.

The Greenway is 40 km in length and stretches across the old Limerick-Tralee railway line, connecting the towns of Rathkeale, Newcastle West and Abbeyfeale.

If you’re looking for a new cycling adventure this summer or a walk you haven’t explored yet, this route looks absolutely beautiful.

The route is close to Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way and you can expect to find Norman castles, abbeys, medieval ruins, old railway stations, a viaduct, the Barnagh Tunnel and gorgeous scenery. There are also plenty of places to stop off for food, drinks and shopping.

Time to get planning for your next adventure!
