Earlier today, Everton soccer player Wayne Rooney was banned form driving for two years after pleading guilty to driving under the influence in Manchester earlier this month.
The footballer issued an apology via his official website is which he states:
“Following today’s court hearing I want publicly to apologise for my unforgiveable lack of judgement in driving while over the legal limit. It was completely wrong.
“I have already said sorry to my family, my manager and chairman and everyone at Everton FC. Now I want to apologise to all the fans and everyone else who has followed and supported me throughout my career.
“Of course I accept the sentence of the court and hope that I can make some amends through my community service.
Wayne.”

The charge and the apology has caught the attention of Kerry GAA star James O’Donoghue who put out the following tweet after the news broke:
Rooney has issued an apology. I hate people coming out apologising. Who are u apologising to? Who gives a f***? Tell everyone to jog on

Some Twitter users haven’t taken kindly to O’Donoghue’s tweet and were quick to let him know their thoughts:
A lot of people, mainly families of those who are killed by drunk drivers every year
