The football family here in Ireland is still struggling to come to terms with the untimely death of Derry City captain Ryan McBride on Sunday.
Little over 24 hours before his death was confirmed, Ryan was leading his side to a 4-0 victory over Drogheda United. Just a week earlier, he scored the winner in a 1-0 victory over Shamrock Rovers at Tallaght Stadium.
For someone to pass away so suddenly at the age of just 27 seems so unfair and that’s reflected in this video produced by RTE’s flagship League Of Ireland show Soccer Republic last night.
Featuring interviews with a host of coaches and managers, including Ireland’s Martin O’Neill, a visibly stunned group share the memories of Ryan, both as a footballer and a man.

The tributes continue to pour in for McBride and the FAI have confirmed that his memory will be honoured before Ireland’s World Cup qualifier against Wales at the Aviva Stadium on Friday night.
