103-Year-Old Ruby’s First Trip To The Cinema After 80 Years Between Visits

Sarah Finnan

Donegal woman Ruby Druce just paid a visit to her local cinema, for the first time in over 80 years.

And it seems she enjoyed it so much that she told friends to make sure to bring her to the sequel.

Ruby’s last trip to the cinema was in the 1940s when she cycled from her home in Castlefinn across the border to the pictures in Strabane.

Putting the hiatus down to a busy life, it was Ruby’s niece Margo who decided to bring her for a day out to see Downton Abbey.

All the stops were pulled out for her visit to Century Complex in Letterkenny, and she was even treated to a celebratory meal in the adjoining Backstage Bar and Grill.

Soon to be 104, Ruby’s social calendar is filling up fast with plans for a party to celebrate her upcoming birthday on December 31st, so future trips to the cinema may have to be put on the back burner for another while.

I’m guessing anything less than 80 years is an improvement though.
