8 gorgeous outdoor dining spots in Connemara

When trying to pick a staycation spot in Ireland, you really can’t go wrong with Connemara.

You’ve got Kylemore Abbey, the stunning Killary Fjord and some of the most beautiful beaches in Ireland. But after all that walking, swimming and exploring, wouldn’t you work up a fierce hunger? Having a few places lined up for food and drinks is the key to any great staycay, and we’ve got you covered here with a few of our favourite outdoor dining spots in Connemara.

1. Misunderstood Heron

This gorgeous spot is ideally located right along the Killary Fjord. It’s got fresh mussels, delish pasties and most importantly, fairly incredible views.

2. Póta

This gorgeous thatched cafe in the Gaeltacht opened last year and is passionate about organic, sustainably produced food. It also has both Irish and english on it’s menu if you’re not too great with the aul cúpla focal (like myself).

3. Restaurant Darcy Twelve

Located in the heart of buzzy Clifden Town, this is a great spot for burgers, fish and chips and epic desserts.

4. Guys Bar

This place has you covered if it rains but is also ideally located for when the sun shines (it’ll happen eventually!) A great spot for a few mojitos.

5. Sweet Nothings Cafe

Another gorgeous thatched cafe, this time in the friendly town of Ballyconneely with an all vegan/vegetarian menu! With its cheatken burgers and indulgent desserts, there’s something here for meat lovers and veggies alike.

6. Powers Thatch Bar & Restaurant

There’s a gorgeous sun trap beer garden out the back of this cosy pub on Oughterard Main Street. They’ve got loads of lovely pub grub options and of course, delicious pints.

7. O’ Flaherty’s Connemara Seafood

Nothing beats fresh fish and chips loaded with salt and vinegar after a sea swim or any outdoor pursuit, really. O Flaherty’s is right by the sea with plenty of picnic benches out the side for taking in the view.

8. Pádraicíns Bar & Restaurant

A beautiful family run business right on the beach. Can you think of a dreamier location to sit back with a pint?
