Aer Lingus has come to the rescue of passengers left stranded after the sudden collapse of WOW Air this week.

The Icelandic airline announced on Thursday that they would be ceasing operations and cancelling all flights with immediate effect, leaving thousands of passengers stranded in both the US and Europe.

Aer Lingus has confirmed on Twitter that they will be offering special rescue fares to help anyone who had been due to fly between now and April 11.

They wrote, ‘Special fares are available to anyone affected by the news from WOW Air today.

‘If you booked with WOW and you need an alternative flight, please call. We’ll do our best to help.’

Those affected by the cancellations are advised to contact Aer Lingus directly to avail of the special rates.

On Thursday, WOW Air published a travel alert on their website informing customers that they had ‘ceased operation’.

They advised, ‘Some airlines may offer flights at a reduced rate, so-called rescue fares, in light of the circumstances.’
