Jen

A newborn baby was found dead in a bathroom of an out-of-hours doctor’s surgery in Waterford.

It is thought the baby’s mother was brought to the service by a relative on the 22nd of April and while there she went to the toilet and delivered the baby.

According to RTÉ, the woman was then taken to University Hospital Waterford from the caredoc she had been attending.

Inquiries were made and the gardaí went back to search the emergency GP practice where the baby’s body was found in the bathroom.

The young woman is from Waterford city and is currently being taken care of by her family.

A post-mortem examination was carried out by Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis but the results have not yet been released.

It is currently under investigation by the gardaí who are preparing a file for the DPP.
