We’d like to think this error was down to a genuine mistake rather than blatant ignorance.
If you’re in any way a sports fan or even a regular Twitter browser, you’ll probably know that the 2017 squad for the British And Irish Lions tour to New Zealand was announced earlier today.
11 Irish players were named in Warren Gatland’s squad, among them Johnny Sexton, Robbie Henshaw and Peter O’Mahony. Fair enough so far, says you.
The Irish contingent were named alongside 16 Englishman, 12 Welshmen and a pair of Scots for the tour which gets underway in June.
Most would agree that the breakdown of the squad into the different nationalities makes for quite an interesting stat and it was one which BT Sport were keen to share on Twitter earlier on.
All fine and dandy except for one thing. They made a bit of a balls of the map of Ireland.

For those who are unaware, unlike in football where the Republic and the North play separately, the Irish rugby team represents both sides of the border.
For this reason, there was a bit of confusion as to why the Republic of Ireland had been left off the map.
Luckily, a number of eagle-eyed observers were on hand to correct the error, most notably the IRFU themselves

Thankfully, the mistake was quickly rectified and the tweet was deleted before being replaced with the following:

All’s well that end’s well and it looks like everyone’s happy:

That’s that sorted. The most important thing now is that is our lads do us proud this summer along with the rest of their British And Irish Lions teammates. #COYBAIL
