Gardaí can fine people €100 for breaching COVID-19 travel restrictions from today

Rory Cashin

The fine will be issued to anyone who breaches the current travel regulations and does not comply with direction given by Gardaí.

While we have previously reported on Gardaí issuing fines to those who have been found outside of their 5km radius without proper cause, today is the first day that a fixed charge has been implemented.

The full details of the new Fixed Charge can be found here:

As reported by the Offaly Express, Deputy Commissioner John Twomey made the following statement today:

“An Garda Síochána continues to see significant compliance by the public with Public Health Regulations, however we also continue to see some activity which is in contravention of these regulations introduced to stop the current spread of Covid-19 and protect our communities.

“I appeal to every person without a reasonable excuse for travel – Stay at Home, this is your duty as a citizen and will save lives and support our front line services, nurses, doctors, hospital staff and my Garda colleagues at this time.”
