Ireland could be in for a White Christmas this year

Is another big freeze on the way? Let’s hope not.

Dreaming of a white Christmas? It looks like your wish could come true this December.

It’s been 12 years since we last had a white Christmas in Ireland, but forecasters believe things could change for winter 2022.

According to a forecaster in the UK, temperatures will drop rapidly in December.

It could be as cold as -8 degrees which means the chances of it snowing are higher than usual.

Coral’s John Hill told Metro;

“The odds say it will be all white on the big day. Big chills are coming early this year.”

“We are less than 100 days away from Christmas now, and with temperatures set to fall rapidly over the upcoming days, the early odds suggest we could be set for a white Christmas this year.”

As pretty as it may look, a white Christmas is bound to cause a wave of disruptions just like it did in 2010.

During the winter of 2010, Ireland experienced heavy snowfalls, freezing temperatures, travel disruptions, and school closures.

The Big Freeze of 2010 saw temperatures drop to as low as -15 in parts of Dublin. 27cm of snow was also recorded in Dublin during the cold snap.

The extreme cold spell lasted from early November to December 2010. Let’s hope history doesn’t repeat itself this December.
