The company has blamed “factors beyond their control” for the price hike.

One of the country’s largest household waste collection companies has written to customers this week to inform them of an impending increase in bin charges.

From the beginning of July, a further €3 will be charged to consumers’ bills per month, in what is the latest in a line of bin collection price rises.

The company, Greyhound Recycling, has over 100,000 customers in the greater Dublin area and has said that it is imposing the price increases as a result of rising costs facing its operation.

In an email sent to customers this week, the company blamed “factors beyond our control”, and said that its “costs to collect and process your waste continue to rise”.

With the company having already increased prices in the last year, the cost to consumers for household bin collection has now risen almost 30% in the space of a 12-month period.

In addition to Greyhound Recyling’s announcement of their prices increasing, Panda Waste followed suit late on Thursday night with a similar statement, in which they detailed their own price hikes.

The company announced a price increase to its quarterly collection fees, rising from €75 up to €83, resulting in an annual increase of €32 for customers.

Panda, who serve a customer base of over 350,000, also last month announced a new charge of €3.80 per bin for removing compostable materials, including certain food and garden waste.

Similarly to Greyhound, this is not Panda Waste’s first price increase in recent times, with the company introducing a previous rise of 10 per cent last year.
