Together For Yes Campaign Leaders Named In TIME 100 List Of Most Influential People

The three co-directors behind the Together for Yes campaign have been included in the 2019 TIME 100 List.

Grainne Griffin, Ailbhe Smyth and Orla O’Connor were named in the ‘Icons’ section and in a piece written for TIME, Ruth Negga applauded how they ‘put the experiences of women and the needs of their country first’.

Ruth also wrote, ‘Together for Yes, the campaign to repeal the eighth amendment to the Irish constitution, put the Mná na hÉireann front, centre and in control of their own bodies and rights like never before.’

Grainne Griffin is a founding member of the Abortion Rights Campaign and Orla O’Connor is director of the National Women’s Council of Ireland.

Ailbhe Smyth, convener of the Coalition to Repeal the Eighth Amendment, said, “We are honoured to receive this accolade from Time Magazine. It is evidence of the significant international ‘ripple’ impact of the Together for Yes campaign.

“The referendum result here in Ireland was a real boost for the morale of pro-choice campaigners throughout the world; and we hope it can be a beacon of light wherever and whenever abortion rights are denied, restricted or under severe threat.”
