Irish skies were lit up by the last supermoon of 2020 last night, with it due to make its final appearance tonight.

People all across the country had their heads turned upward last night, eyes peeled for the last supermoon of 2020. Occurring when a full moon coincides with perigee, a term used to describe the moon’s closest point to Earth during its monthly orbit, the May moon is one of the closest full moons to Earth so far this year.

Also called the flower moon, it’s the fourth supermoon to happen so far this year – with the others occurring in February, March and April respectively. A number of stargazers headed outside, cameras in hand to capture the phenomenon and we’ve rounded up some of the most impressive below.
