WATCH: Buskers make a welcome return to the streets of Galway

Sarah Finnan

A video posted online shows a group of buskers entertaining locals as they go about their business in Galway city. A very welcome sight and one that hints at the city’s former, pre-coronavirus glory.

Galway and buskers go hand in hand… well, probably not these days given that social distancing isn’t necessarily hand-holding friendly, but metaphorically speaking they do.  In fact, so popular is the local music scene that many would credit it as being one of the top reasons they love Galway so much. It’s definitely a contributing factor for me personally.

The lifeblood of Galway’s arts and culture scene, it’s been a quiet few months without the city’s buskers but thankfully, they’ve made a welcome return and are back doing what they do best.

Capturing the action, a video shared online shows a group of musicians entertaining shoppers down High Street. Perched right outside Kilkenny Shop, the foursome can be seen giving the performance absolute socks – much to the delight of passersby, many of whom stopped to take in the music before moving on.

Making the most of the break in the rain. Sure isn’t Galway only go hálainn?!
