There's one county in Ireland that everyone quite often takes a stab at.
It's hilly, it's never appeared in an All Ireland final, and finally, it has no traffic lights.
You guessed it! We're on about County Leitrim
Often bashed and rarely praised, we've decided to pull together some reasons as to why Leitrim is actually the business. So, buckle up, as we're about to change your whole perspective on Lovely, Lovely Leitrim.
1. It boasts some of the most beautiful landscape in Ireland
No, really. See for yourselves...
Lough Key Forest Park
2. Francis Boylan
Yep, yer man from ''What's Snots?'' is from none other than County Leitrim. Thus, without him - this perfect piece of television never would have existed.
And for that, we are eternally grateful.
3. The stag party capital of the world
Yes, Carrick-on-Shannon claims the top spot for stag parties, hen parties and general merriment in the whole world. Have you ever seen it on a bank holiday?!
It's no coincidence that Carrick sounds suspiciously like 'craic'...
With Dublin housing prices only getting scarier, we're all seeking safe retreat in one of Dublin's more affordable counties. Check out this ENORMOUS gaff going for less than €200,000 in Leitrim.
It'd break your heart, wouldn't it?
The delicious potato pancake that you didn't know you needed until right now.
When it's done right, it's light, fluffy, crispy and delicious - and, whaddayaknow, it's a Leitrim delicacy! It can be found in droves in the Connacht county.
6. Loads of room for activities
Leitrim is basically the adventure county - with ample room, loads of lakes and absolutely tonnes of opportunities to try out any activity you'd ever wanted to try.
The Shannon Blueway is the spot for water sports, while sailing, hill-walking and clay pigeon shooting and are flavours of every month everywhere else.
7. And finally, the whole 'traffic lights' thing
We couldn't write up a list without mention of the traffic lights situation. Well, could we?
Leitrim famously never boasted a set of traffic lights in the whole county. Ones were installed back in 2003, but were then removed as they weren't needed and caused too much confusion.
1. Isn't that the best thing you've ever heard?
2. Leitrim officially has no traffic. Take that, Dublin!
Has your idea of the county changed? Has your thought process been tampered with? Has everything you've ever known been shaken?
Great. We're delighted.
