Dolores O’Riordan has been named the best female artist in the history of Billboard’s Alternative Chart.
The Limerick woman was named ahead of other alternative icons such as Kate Bush, Alanis Morissette and Sinead O’Connor.
According to the Irish Mirror, her win is due to her eight entries on the weekly chart since it began in 1988.
These include the four-week stints of both ‘Zombie’ in 1994 and ‘Salvation’ in 1996 at number 1 on the chart.
They also feature on Billboard’s all-time Top 300 list of alternative songs with ‘Zombie’ coming in at number 39 and ‘Salvation’ at 280.
The list was released as Billboard celebrates 30 years of its radio airplay chart.
While the entire list features mostly male artists and bands, The Cranberries came in at no.56.
The table is calculated using an inverse point system with cumulative weeks at No.1 earning the greatest and weeks at lower spots earning the least.
