The wait for the highly anticipated John Lewis Christmas ad is over as they’ve finally revealed it this morning.
The ad called The Boy and the Piano stars Elton John and follows key moments in his life.
It opens with Elton playing the opening notes to Your Song on the piano, which was his first major hit in 1970 before panning to him playing a stadium show.
It then shows the singer performing through key moments throughout his life, including on a private jet, a recording studio, a family party and at a school show.
Later the video comes full circle as we see a young Elton being given the piano from the beginning of the clip as a Christmas present, with a caption that reads, ‘Some gifts are more than just a gift.’
This is the second ad by the retailer to feature Your Song, after Ellie Goulding recorded a cover of it for their Christmas ad back in 2010.
Elton said, “The John Lewis Christmas campaign has so many warm memories for me and my family.
“It’s been a lovely opportunity for me to reflect on my life in music and the incredible journey I have been on, and how first playing my grandmother’s piano marks the moment when music came into my life.
“The ad is absolutely fantastic and I’ve truly loved every minute of being a part of it.”
