You Probably Missed The Best Irish Television Documentary This Year Which Aired Last Night

While most people were glued to the end of the biggest Champions League game of the tournament so far where Liverpool took City to town beating them 3-0, a fascinating documentary was just beginning on TG4.

You may remember a couple of weeks back, we told you the story of the Maamtrasna Murders, a 135-year-old murder mystery which took place on the border of Galway and Mayo that remains unsolved.

It was believed that innocent people were charged and died because of the murders while guilty parties roamed free.

‘Murdair Mhám Trasna’ follows the story of how the stealing of sheep led to a family murder and one of the biggest and unfairest trials this country has seen.

It aired last night at 9:30pm on the Irish broadcasting network and it has been getting 5 star reviews all round this morning.

The Irish Independent described it as “a tremendously vivid and emotionally-affecting account of one of the most brutal multiple murder cases in the country’s history”.

“This was a superb documentary,” the concluded before giving it five stars.

Coincidentally enough, the documentary was released on the same day that one of the three men that was hanged, Myles Joyce, was giving a pardon for the murders.

It was said for years that Joyce had been wrongfully convicted and even the other two men that were hanged with him said he was innocent.
