The 70’s in Ireland were the best of times, and the worst of times, but they were also a feckin’ goldmine for things that would never be allowed to see the light of day today.
Bowl haircuts, wispy moustaches, and brown and orange wallpaper to name but a few. Oh, and seriously out-of-date job advertisements too.
This 1972 Garda Siochana advertisement posted on Reddit for new recruits has some pretty classic specifications of the time…
Here’s what you needed to be a Garda in the 70’s:
- Unmarried
- Of “good character”
- In good health
- A “mean chest measurement of at least 37ins”
