Big news from social platform Pinterest – they’ve banned affiliate links, and claim this has nothing to do with making money, they just want to improve the user experience.
Pinterest which allows users who sign-up to ‘Pin’ images onto personal and public boards have started to remove third party links to prevent ‘spammy’ behaviour by brands and companies who use the platform. An interesting move, which has sparked rumours that they’re going to introduce a ‘Buy’ button – reported by Recode who claim to have an insight into the next steps of development for Pinterest. The ‘Buy’ button would ensure that users wouldn’t have to leave the site to purchase products, making Pinterest an e-commerce platform (something a spokesperson has danced around).
The brand which is celebrating four years in March now has over 70 million users – 70 million opportunities to make more money.
