louisejohnston

It is no surprise that today, it has been announced that the free messaging service Whatsapp has over-taken SMS. The app is now used by over half a billion people across the globe and over 50% more messages are sent daily than via SMS. Its safe to say this could be signalling the end of traditional text messages.

The company handles 30 billion messages every day, compared to 20 billion SMS. Users of the popular social app are also sharing more than 700 million photos and 100 million videos every single day. This is incredible data and really shows the shift in how we communicate on a daily basis.

Whatsapp have remained adamant despite the recent partnership with Facebook that they won’t give into advertising. The remain to stick to their core value of private communication and ask for as little data as possible from new users signing up.
