These are the five best movies on TV tonight

Rory Cashin

Comedies, murder-mysteries, and huge action movies. Tonight has got it all.

Tuesday.

Tuesday, Tuesday, Tuesday… What are we gonna do with you?

So far from last weekend, so far from next weekend. Tuesday is nobody’s favourite day of the week.

Thankfully, with the help of one or more of the following movies, we can help Tuesday go by that bit faster.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets – FilmFour – 9pm

Luc Besson (the guy behind Lucy and The Fifth Element) delivers another HUGE sci-fi action movie, with Cara Delevingne and Dane DeHaan, who find themselves being chased across space as they attempt to figure out a mystery that could result in the end of the universe as we know it. Watch it on as big a TV as you can find.

The Inbetweeners Movie – E4 – 9pm

Will, Jay, Neil and Simon go on holiday together. As per usual, mad stuff ensues.

Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery – Comedy Central – 9pm

The first of the Austin Powers trilogy, with Mike Myers as both the titular hero and the iconic bad guy Dr. Evil. We’ve also got Elizabeth Hurley as love interest Vanessa Kensington, Seth Green as Scott Evil, and Will Ferrell himself in the cameo role of Mustafa.

Planet of the Apes – ITV4 – 10.05pm

Not the legendary 1968 movie, nor the fantastic series of recent remakes, but the one that came in between. Tim Burton cast Mark Wahlberg as the human lost in a planet of apes, with a truly remarkable supporting cast – Tim Roth, Paul Giamatti, Helena Bonham Carter, Michael Clarke Duncan, David Warner – behind the monkey make-up.

Along Came A Spider -FilmFour – 11.45pm

A kidnapping, murder-mystery thriller for all you night owls, with Morgan Freeman as a detective on the case of a missing congressman’s daughter, who seemed to be taken even though she had her own Secret Service agents assigned to her.
