Denzel Washington. Jennifer Lawrence. Matthew McConaughey. And one of the greatest war movies ever made.
You’re asking yourself the same question we’re asking ourselves.
“How is it Monday again already?”
We need scientists to properly study that weekend, because there is no way it was 48 hours long.
Anyways, if you’re sitting in tonight, these are the best movies on the small screen this evening:
Sahara – FilmFour – 6.35pm
Matthew McConaughey was hoping this could the beginnings of his modern-era Indiana Jones series of adventures, but it failed miserably at the box office, so that was that. The movie itself is actually kind of fun, as he runs around the globe in search of buried treasure with his best friend (Steve Zahn) and love interest (Penelope Cruz).
Saving Private Ryan – Sky One – 9pm
Spielberg delivers one of the greatest war movies of all time, with an all-star cast of soldiers – Tom Hanks, Vin Diesel, Tom Sizemore, Edward Burns, Barry Pepper, loads more – are assigned a mission of saving one particular man (Matt Damon) from behind enemy lines.
The Equalizer – ITV4 – 9pm
The first of tonight’s two Denzel Washington movies sees him go full Liam-Neeson-in-Taken mode, playing an older gentleman with a dark and violent past, forced to break out of his quiet life when faced with criminal activity that directly impacts him.
Inside Man – TG4 – 9.30pm
The second (and better) Washington movie on tonight, he plays a police officer assigned to investigate an intricate bank robbery, with mastermind Clive Owen hiding more than a few tricks up his sleeve. Directed by the legendary Spike Lee, with Jodie Foster, Chiwetel Ejifor, Christopher Plummer, Willem Dafoe, and more in the impressive supporting cast.
Joy – FilmFour – 1.05am
For all you night owls out there, Jennifer Lawrence reunites with her Silver Linings Playbook co-stars (Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro) and director to tell this story of a woman who slowly builds and runs a huge family empire, even as that very family try to undermine her at every single turn.
