A Third Instalment Of The Original ‘Ghostbusters’ Movies Is Coming Next Year

There’s another Ghostbusters movie on the way next year…

And fans of the original eighties movies will be delighted to hear that it is set in the OG universe, completely separate from the female-focused 2016 iteration.

The third instalment of the Ghostbusters franchise will be directed by Jason Reitman, son of Ivan Reitman who directed the 1984 movie and the 1989 sequel.

Speaking about a return to the original universe, Reitman said:

“I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans. This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the Eighties happened in the Eighties, and this is set in the present day.”

Of Paul Feig’s 2016 adaptation which starred Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, Reitman said:

“I have so much respect for what Paul created with those brilliant actresses, and would love to see more stories from them. However, this new movie will follow the trajectory of the original film.”

The Slovak-Canadian film producer did not divulge much information about the next instalment, except to say that there will be “a lot of wonderful surprises and new characters”.

It remains to be seen whether original cast members Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd or Ernie Hudson will make an appearance.

The fourth cast member from the original movie franchise, Harold Ramis, passed away in 2014.
