18th November, 2009.
You know where you were, you know exactly where you were. You know what you were wearing, you know what you said when it happened.
You remember everything.
Because, how could you forget it.
The hand from hell…
And what’s worse is that we played our little hearts out that night in Paris. Going into the second leg a goal down, we needed to put on a show that resembled the great Irish teams of the early 90s and 00s.
And we did, Keano’s early goal that meant we had cancelled out France’s away goal in Ireland. We dragged it all the way to extra time only for that to happen right at the death.
Distraught.
Ireland play France tonight in a pre-World Cup friendly and there’s no bitterness there whatsoever.
Sure it’s almost a decade now and we’re like completely over that, honest to God, don’t ever think about it.
Yeah right, whoever is in control of the RTÉ Soccer Twitter account has said what we all would have said if we were in his position.
Early doors in the game and a neat passing move ends in the Irish penalty area and when Mbappé attempts to flick a deft ball across the face of the Irish box, it hits the arm of Long at point-blank range.
The referee, however, rightly waves away the penalty claims…
France want a penalty for handball. Not given. Annoying when the ref misses a handball though isn’t it? https://t.co/YAYVPt8KN1 #RTEsoccer pic.twitter.com/0LZodTjk6U
