The 10 Best ‘It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’ Episodes To Watch On Netflix Tonight

conorcoyle

Few comedy shows have so consistently pushed the boundaries of what’s acceptable more so than It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

What started off as a group of young unaccomplished actors messing around, has turned into one of today’s most popular television series.

The adventures of ‘The Gang’ of Dennis, Charlie, Mac, Frank, and Dee have frequently gone from the bizarre to the downright disgusting, and we just can’t get enough of it.

With 124 episodes of gold to choose from, we’ve taken on the unenviable task of selecting the top 10 episodes available for you to wet yourself laughing at on Netflix tonight.

Don’t actually wet yourself though, please.

1. The D.E.N.N.I.S. System (Season 5, Episode 10)

Perhaps one of the episodes that most accurately depicts the gang of oddballs that is the staff of Paddy’s Pub, this gem in Season 5 outlines Dennis’ foolproof system for manipulating women.

The strategy, which includes steps like ‘Nurturing Dependence’ and ‘Neglect Emotionally’, provides a blueprint which the rest of the characters attempt to apply to their own quests, to disastrous consequences.

2. The Gang Goes To The Jersey Shore (Season 7, Episode 2)

A trip to the Atlantic City sees Charlie drinking lots of sun cream, Dennis and Dee reliving their childhood memories by watching two homeless men having sex under a boardwalk, and Frank and Mac getting lost at sea with the ‘rum ham’.

Pure class.

3. Dennis And Dee Go On Welfare (Season 2, Episode 3)

This episode shows the series’ development into being a social commentary, and sees the siblings purposely get addicted to crack so they can claim welfare.

A typical example of the many despicable plans The Gang gets up to.

4. Charlie Work (Season 10, Episode 4)

Charlie Work was one of the few It’s Always Sunny episodes known for its sophistication rather than its crass, it contains a 10-minute scene which is made to look like it’s done in one take, with Charlie scrambling around Paddy’s attempting to get the bar ready for a health inspection.

5. The Gang Solves The Gas Crisis (Season 4, Episode 2)

A perfect summing up of all the characters in their best form, as they attempt to sell oil door-to-door in Philadelphia. “Wildcard bitches!”

6. The Nightman Cometh (Season 4, Episode 13)

Following a reference by Charlie to “the Nightman” in an earlier episode, the joke is elaborated into a full episode where the characters create a musical based on a boy getting tormented by supernatural creatures.

If it sounds pretty messed up, that’s because it is, but that’s when this show is at its sick best.

7. The Gang Beats Boggs (Season 10, Episode 1)

The Gang aims to beat baseball legend Wade Boggs’ record of drinking 50 beers on an internal flight in the United States.

As you can imagine, the results are pure hilarity.

8. The Gang Reignites The Rivalry (Season 5, Episode 12)

The proprietors of Paddy’s Pub were banned for 10 years from the ‘Flipadelphia’ drinking competition for poisoning the opposition, but are reinstated in this episode to form a rivalry with a group of college kids.

9. Frank Reynold’s Little Beauties (Season 7, Episode 3)

After watching the first series of the show, Danny DeVito thought it was so good that he wrote to the creators telling them he wanted to be in it, and there he’s been since Season 2.

Perhaps Frank’s greatest moment is his ‘Little Beauties’ pageant, where his make-up alone is cause for side-splitting laughter.

10. How Mac Got Fat (Season 7, Episode 10)

Fans of the cult show were fascinated with the seemingly pointless reasons as to why Mac had suddenly gained a shitload of weight in the seventh season, and Rob McElhenney himself hasn’t really given a clear answer.

But the show’s explanation for his “cultivating mass” are revealed in this brilliant episode.
