A Belfast restaurant is giving a free meal to anyone who is alone at Christmas

James Fenton

Bengal Brasserie in Belfast will be offering free meals to people who are alone this Christmas.

Luthfer Ahmed, owner of the Ormeau Road eatery, is inviting anyone who ‘finds themselves on their own at Christmas to join him and the staff at Bengal Brasserie Ormeau road on Wednesday 25th December 2019 to share a Christmas meal.’

This is the third year that the restaurant has made the kind gesture and it’s certainly gone down well with people on social media. One commenter on the Facebook event said it was a ‘wonderful, kind thing to do’ while another added ‘the world needs more like you.’

On its website, Bengal Brasserie describes itself as an ‘authentic Bangladeshi restaurant that serves delicious Indian food.’ It adds that it aims to ‘delight the taste buds of even the most discerning patrons.’

As well as eating in, Bengal Brasserie also offers a takeaway option and dishes include Jhranga Masala, Chasni and Desi Mazadar. Whatever your preference, this is a wonderful gesture. If you know anyone in Belfast that might be on their own on December 25, be sure to point them in the right direction.

The restaurant will be open from 12 noon until 8pm and it asks people to call 02890647516 to reserve a place. More information can be found here.
