The number of people who have been vaccinated has surpassed the number of confirmed Covid cases worldwide for the first time ever.

Good news stories can seem a little few and far between these days but all is not lost just yet – there is cause for hope. Still need convincing? Well, this ought to do it as it’s been confirmed that the number of people who have been vaccinated has surpassed the number of confirmed global Covid cases for the first time ever.

An article published by the Financial Times (FT) confirms that, as of yesterday, 105 million people have been vaccinated worldwide – versus 103 million confirmed Covid-19 cases. Acknowledging that the figures are “incomplete” due to the “fragmented nature of reporting”, the “landmark moment” is still a testament to the progress being made against the virus.

Speaking to the FT, Michael Head, global health research fellow at Southampton University commented: “the fact that we have so many vaccines is a huge good news story… this moment brings it together, showing us how fast we have moved and how far we have come”.

The news comes after the Chief Executive of a group of Irish hospitals yesterday commented that the situation is improving, saying that the country is ‘past the peak’ of the third Covid. Giving us all further reason to believe that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
