Snow is forecast for parts of Ireland this weekend as temperatures are set to drop.

Met Eireann anticipate sleet or snow to fall on Sunday night, when temperatures are expected to drop to below freezing.

Friday is set to be largely dry with plenty of cloud around the country and highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees.

Saturday is expected to be similar in terms of temperatures and it will also be mostly dry.

Temperatures will drop on Sunday, which is set to be a cold and blustery day around Ireland before an evening of wintry showers which will likely include snow or sleet.

The national forecast for Sunday reads: “Rain will clear quickly from the east on Sunday to leave a cold and blustery day with sunshine and scattered showers, some wintry. Maximum afternoon temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees in brisk southwest winds.

“Showers will become widespread across the country overnight and will turn increasingly wintry with some falls of sleet or snow. Very cold and frosty with minimum temperatures of -1 to +3 degrees in fresh and gusty southwest winds.”
