RTÉ Reveal Christmas Movie And TV Schedule And Everyone Is Going To Tune In For These Class Irish Documentaries

RTÉ announced its Christmas television line-up this morning promising to keep viewers close to home through this festive season.

The Young Offenders Christmas Special is set to steal the season on RTÉ. Filmed in Cork, the show will star Alex Murphy, Chris Walley and Hilary Rose, with Robert Sheehan guest starring.

Mrs Brown’s Boys is back with two brand new episodes, airing on Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve which will see Agnes invite Winnie to stay when her house is flooded and Buster revealing some big news. Over on RTÉ2 on Christmas Eve, with their TV destroyed and being held at gun point, we see the hilarious Bridget & Eamon recreating a popular TV show to stay alive.

And the nation’s favourite feckless rogues get festive, for a slice of celebrity roasting and a dollop of music, sprinkled with some good old-fashioned, moderate abuse on The Podge and Rodge Show and Celebrity Home of the Year is back also.

As for the movies that they have on offer, they are amazing:

The BFG, The Jungle Book, Conor McGregor’s documentary Notorious, Antman, Zootopia, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The Magnificent Seven, Deadpool, and Creed. These are freshly added alongside the classics: Home Alone, Love Actually, Miracle on 34th Street, plus seasons of Harry Potter and James Bond.

Also for music lovers, there is a documentary telling the story behind the 1982 making of Old Town, one of Phil Lynott’s most loved songs with an iconic promo video made exclusively for RTÉ.

Other documentaries this season include Life after the Rising, presented by the acclaimed social historian and archivist Catriona Crowe as well as Pope Francis in Ireland.

In his own words, Jason Sherlock, the 1995 All Ireland winning Dublin forward will address the racial abuse he experienced throughout his childhood, finding fame in his sporting career, and finding peace off the field by exploring the roots of his family tree.

Players of the Faithful shows how, in 1982, the greatest team in GAA history travelled from the Kingdom to Croke Park with immortality in their hands.

There’s a lot of eating and drinking in this, so you won’t be stuck for anything to watch this Christmas.
