The Top Ten Most Popular Irish Funeral Songs Have Been Revealed

Darragh Berry

AA Life Insurance has been hard at work lately discovering what Ireland’s most popular funeral songs are.

They surveyed over 4,000 participants and found that Andrea Bocelli’s version of  Time to Say Goodbye is the nation’s favourite with nearly one in five choosing the song.

Surprisingly, Monty Python’s funny anthem, Always Look on the Bright Side of Life, is very popular with the nation too as almost 15% said they would have it as their funeral song.

Coming in just behind the Life of Brian song is the classic hymn, The Lord’s My Shepherd, followed by Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World was also a firm favourite, as a top pick for 12.68 per cent.

These are the top ten most popular songs:

  • Always Look on the Bright Side of Life
  • My Way
  • Over the Rainbow
  • Angels
  • Time to Say Goodbye
  • Wind Beneath My Wings
  • Nothing Compares 2 U
  • What A Wonderful World
  • My Father’s Eyes
  • Tears In Heaven

Commenting on the results, the AA’s Conor Faughnan said: “Funerals are going to, of course, be a tough time for our loved ones and, with this in mind, many of us will try to bring a smile to their faces with a touch of humour at our funeral.”

“The cost of a funeral can put a lot of financial strain on your family who will already be going through a difficult time.

“But having awkward conversations about arrangements and life insurance now instead of putting it off will at least help ease some of the burden.”
