Applications are currently open for a two-month sabbatical in The Bahamas.

Irish people are eligible to apply for Airbnb’s once-in-a-lifetime trip to The Bahamas for the duration of April and May.

Five lucky applicants will be selected by Airbnb to travel to The Bahamas, where they will experience the Bahamian culture and help restore the islands’ natural beauty by working alongside passionate local hosts.

The sabbatical will involve volunteering to support the revitalisation of struggling local industries and the preservation of the country’s natural resources.

Two weeks will be spent in Andres island learning from experts on reef care, two weeks will be spent in Eleuthera learning about the preparation and health benefits of bush teas and natural remedies and more than two weeks will be spent in The Exumas learning about ethical fishing practices.

The successful applicants will have basic living needs provided; including food, local transportation and accommodation throughout the experience of living the life of a Bahamian citizen between April 1 and May 29.

Applicants must be over 18 and meet the selection criteria, which are laid out here. Applications opened on Tuesday and will remain open until February 18.
