A New Play Starring Dustin The Turkey Has Been Announced

James Fenton

If you have kids, they probably won’t believe you when you tell them that Ireland’s biggest celebrity was once a stuffed turkey.

Between Christmas number one albums, regular appearances on the country’s biggest TV shows and even an unsuccessful Eurovision showing, Dustin really was hot property in the 1990s and 2000s.

Since then, the foul-mouthed fowl has kept a fairly low profile, aside from regular barbs at his celeb friends on Twitter. That is until now, as it has just been announced that our favourite turkey will be starring in a new play called The Comback Vehicle, which will kick off at the Viking Theatre in Clontarf next month.

Written by Eoin Colfer, the show is pretty much a redemption story as Dustin attempts to bounce back with the help of his manager Brady, played by Eric Lalor.

Dustin will be treading the boards at the Clontarf venue from September 23 until October 12 and according to Lalor, the show will then embark on nationwide tour. Posting on Twitter, the comedian said ‘a little three- week run out in Clontarf in September and October and then full national tour next year.’

A bit of nostalgia mixed in with plenty of comedy and it’s certainly something to look forward to this autumn. More information can be found here.
