David Attenborough has just joined Instagram so prepare to be blessed

David Attenborough has just joined Instagram…

And we can expect a lot more than moody eggs benny shots of a Sunday morning.

The much-loved broadcaster has much loftier plans for his Instagram account.

In a short IGTV post this morning, the historian explained that he’ll be using the social media channel as a new way to communicate and tackle the climate crisis that is threatening the beautiful landscapes and wildlife he has documented throughout his career.

He said:

‘Hello. My name is David Attenborough and I’ve been appearing on radio and television for the past 60 years. But this is my first time on Instagram.

‘I’m making this move and exploring this new way of communication to me, because, as we all know, the world is in trouble.

‘Continents are on fire. Glaciers are melting. Coral reefs are dying. Fish are disappearing from our oceans. The list goes on and on.

‘But we know what to do about it. And that’s why I’m tackling this new way, for me, of communication.

‘Over the next few weeks I’ll be recording messages to explain what the problems are and how we can deal with them.

‘Join me, or as we used to say in those early days of radio – stay tuned.’

Sir Attenborough will be helped along by the team who worked with him on A Life On Our Planet.

They wrote: ‘Social media isn’t David’s usual habitat so while he’s recorded messages solely for Instagram, like the one in this post, we’re helping to run this account.’

As well as content tackling the climate crisis, we can also expect behind the scenes footage and exclusives from the team.

David Attenborough turned 94 in May. His most recent documentary, A Life on Our Planet, comes to Netflix on October 4.
