Ian Bailey has been at the centre of the murder case as both a suspect and a reporter since it took place in Schull in 1996. The murder led to one of the biggest investigations in Ireland’s history, becoming an obsession for people in West Cork and those further afield.
The interview comes following an appearance from Sophie’s son, Pierre-Louis Baudey-Vignaud on the Late Late Show last Friday, where he called for Bailey to be put on trial for the murder.
According to our friends at JOE, Bailey discloses during the Big Interview that he believes Baudey-Vignaud was speaking directly to him.
He also claims that he knows who killed Sophie Toscan du Plantier, adding that he believes the murderer is already “dead”.
In 2019, Bailey was found guilty of the murder by the French Court, who sentenced him to 25 years in prison.
However, Ireland didn’t extradite Bailey due to a supreme court ruling in 2012, so he never served this sentence.
You can watch Colette Fitzpatrick interview Ian Bailey tonight (13th) on Virgin Media One at 9pm.
