An Arctic seal has been spotted sunning itself off the estuary in Timoleague, West Cork, incredibly far from its usual habitat of Arctic waters.
The bearded creature was noticed by wildlife enthusiast Paul Connaughton and filmed for RTÉ News.

This is the second time the whiskered marine mammal has been spotted in Irish waters – the first time back in 2002, off the coast of Galway.
It’s believed that the seal arrived to Irish waters with the intention of eating the abundance of food on offer here.
Can’t say we wouldn’t do the same…
