We may never emotionally recover from this.
When I think back over the last 18 months (which I try to do as infrequently as possible) I find it easiest to identify each lockdown by what everyone was watching on tv rather than anything else. It’s just the easiest, least traumatic option. For example:
- Lockdown 1 (March 2020-June 2020) Tiger King, Normal People
- Lockdown 2 (October 2020-December 2020) The Queens Gambit, anything that was set in a haunted house on Netflix
- Lockdown 3 (December 2020-June 2021) Emily in Paris, It’s A Sin, Married at First Sight Australia
TV wise, Lockdown #1 was an absolute humdinger. Who could forget the influx of calls to Joe Duffy and the Joe Exotic related questions in every family zoom quiz? A strange show to accompany a very strange time. Well my friends, Netflix has confirmed the bizarre big cat documentary will return for a second season, and it promises “just as much mayhem and madness as season 1!”

To be honest, even just seeing the side of Joe Exotic’s mullet is giving me war flashbacks. I don’t know if I’m ready to go back to lying awake in bed at night, wondering if Carole Baskin did or did not feed her husband to the tigers. But it seems like it’s coming, whether we’re ready for it or not. It’s part of an intense season of true crime Netflix have scheduled, so good news if you’ve run out of murder podcasts.
