The basic B’s guide to Love Island episode 1

Fiona Frawley

We’ve waited patiently for so long, and it’s finally that time again.

There are hotties back in the villa and we can spend our summer painstakingly discussing everything they do with our colleagues on the morning zoom. I guess you could say life has meaning once more.

Nothing too crazy went on in episode 1, but we have 5 new couples and a confirmed foot fetish so in fairness there are a few bits to digest. Let’s get into it.

We started off with Kaz and Liberty entering the villa together with a bit of nervous ‘let’s be besties’ energy. Looks like it might continue though because they were together later in the ep giggling and plotting on the couch (and not being able to find Jake because he’s “too short” – shots fired already), so maybe something real is blossoming.

The rest of the girls entered one by one with Sharon immediately asking Shannon to leave (fair enough, she’s an absolute ride and definitely the It gal of the season) and soon enough it was time to couple up. The results were as follows:

Jake and Liberty

Self-professed small foot lover Jake and waitress and student Liberty were the first couple, with Liberty stepping forward for Jake. If I remember correctly, no one usually steps forward for the first boy (poor chap is usually a lamb to slaughter) but Liberty must have been into his combine harvester vibes. So far Liberty has suggested that they both chat too much and neither of them can get a word in edgeways, and Jake has shown arguably too much interest in Liberty’s mum.

Aaron and Shannon

Up next was Aaron and Shannon, or Aaron and “number 5” as her called her – he’s copped a serious bit of stick over that on Twitter already. Kaz and Faye both stepped forward for Aaron, but he wasn’t having a bar of them. Not a huge spark between the two but Shannon says she’ll give it more time, even though she has no interest being coupled up with a fellow model. I’d say there’ll be a lot of interest in Shannon from the other boys too, so we’ll see how they get on!

Hugo and Sharon

Hugo started off coupling up with Faye, who was then snatched off him by Toby, leaving him on the subs bench to couple up with Sharon at the very end. Sharon mentioned she didn’t step forward for anyone because she needs to talk to the person first, which obviously is the extreme opposite of how the works goes but hey, we’ll see how she gets on. Not much of a spark between them and PE teacher Hugo is already shaping up to be a bit of a Curtis pt. 2 clearing everyone’s glasses and doing a bit of a tidy. They did finish off the night with a casual bit of ear sucking though.

Toby and Kaz

Toby went for Faye initially, but after Brad stole her he ended up on the subs bench. Toby and Kaz ended up together as a result, and did that thing where you’re too awkward to speak to each other so you go through all the furniture in the house and make ~gas~ comments about it all. They do seem like they get along though, with Kaz letting Toby know she only didn’t step forward for him because he wasn’t making eye contact with her. Who knows tbh. Also, notably, Toby sucked Kaz’s toes for a challenge and Jake obviously caught it on video for his collection.

Brad and Faye

Faye is shaping up to be one of our faves already because she just looks permanently disgusted by everything. She was coupled up with Hugo, then Toby and finally Brad, who caught the eye of a good few girls (Shannon, Faye and Liberty all stepped forward). Brad’s accent can be a bit hard to decipher but don’t worry, fellow northern Islander and previous winner Amber has us sorted with the translations.

Brad’s been honest and open with the fact that he’s 100% a looks guy, and that there’s no point getting to know someone’s personality if you don’t fancy them. We respect the honesty. Faye isn’t 100% sold on him just yet, so we’ll see what happens.

To conclude the evening, bombshell Chloe sent a voice note (“I’ve got a voice note!” just doesn’t have the same ring to it) and sounding like a Dublin taxi driver ready to pick them all up and take them to the club she divulged “I’ve just arrived, I’m out the front of the villa”. This cliff hanger was where they left it, so we’ll have to wait til tomorrow to see who’s head is turned etc etc.

And there’s you all caught up to date! See you at the same time tomorrow as we continue our journey through the world of heads turning and questionable twerking. God bless.
