We’ll set the scene.
You’re at the World Cup, representing your country. You’re one goal down with seconds left on the clock. You’ve got a throw-in in a decent position and you need a good delivery and a bit of luck if you want to salvage a draw. You want some one on hand to Rory Delap the fuck out of the ball.
The acrobatic, tumble roll throw-in is funny when executed but would we call it skillful? Is it the same as a bicycle kick like Rooney’s against City all those years ago or is it as beautiful as when Ronaldo sends his marker for a holiday with a stepover?
No, it’s just solely funny but I’ll tell you two occasions when it’s not funny:
- When you mess it up
- When you are competing in a big competition and there’s a tight game in session.
Milad Mohammadi, we’d say you got some bollocking at full-time for doing this…
A moment of light entertainment at the end of the game as Milad Mohammadi thought twice about one of those sling-shot style throw-ins.

Sadly, Iran did not get an equaliser and now must win their final game against Portugal if they want to be certain of qualification.
