After all the build-up, the 2018 Late Late Toy Show aired last night and, as usual, it provided some of the best TV moments of the year.
Viewers were greeted by Ryan Tubridy in the guise of P.T. Barnum as Ireland’s Greatest Show got underway and throughout it all, we met the usual cast of talented and downright adorable kids.
It was at the end though were something truly memorable happened as we learned the story of young Scott and his cousin Grace. It all seemed like fairly standard Toy Show fare when Nathan Carter was tasked with surprising a family in Athlone who were watching events unfold on the sofa. It then turned out that the focus was going to be on the two aforementioned children when we were told how Grace had been diagnosed with Leukemia last year and Scott had stepped in to provide her with a bone marrow transplant.
If that wasn’t enough, the children’s mothers were actually at the Toy Show and were surprised in studio as Scott and Grace were brought out to share their heartwarming story. Everyone was a little overcome with emotion as Scott said he had simply “wanted to save her life.”
To finish us all off, the hero was rewarded for his efforts as he met his rugby idols Sean O’Brien, Tadhg Furlong, and Rob Kearney (even though he had namechecked Rob Henshaw and Devin Toner but we’ll say nothing) and the lads showered himself Grace with treats and gifts.
Take a look at the wonderful clip below…

After that, the Christmas gift of the year should be a donor card. <3#LateLateToyShow

Brilliant gesture from @KearneyRob, @SeanOBrien1987, @tadhgfurlong and @IrishRugby to acknowledge a hero like Scott and his cousin Grace on the #LateLateToyShow! ????????

To put the icing on the cake, Scott and Grace’s entire clan were then brought out and they were all told they would be jetting off Orlando for a family holiday.
Another year, another magical moment. Fair play to Ryan Tubridy and all involved. Now that that’s out of the way, we can all start getting ready for Christmas.
