One Of The Biggest Irish Movies Of All Time Is FINALLY On Netflix

From the minute the trailer dropped for this film, Irish people were excited to see it.

It came as no surprise that soon after its release, it became the biggest Irish movie of 2017 and one of the biggest home productions of all time.  

Need more clues or have you already guessed it? (If so, you can scroll down a bit and check out what else is new to Netflix for this weekend.)

That’s right. Cardboard Gangsters has made its way to Netflix and is included in this month’s newest releases. 

If you haven’t seen the movie before, you’re in for a treat. And If you have seen it before, this is your chance to watch it again for the 11th time in the last 12 months. 

Set in Darndale in north Dublin, the movie tells the story of small-time criminals aiming to achieve more money and power in the face of various financial and social problems. 

The gritty move directed by Mark O’Connor and starring John Connors of Love/Hate fame has been described in the Irish Times as ‘as close to a Dublin Boyz n the Hood as we could have hoped. It’s noisy, loud, violent and sad. Cult popularity beckons.’

It has started streaming already on Netflix so you can literally go from this article straight into the movie without further ado.

Dynasty: Season 1 (Now Streaming)

Fallon Carrington is charismatic, cunning, and poised to become the new CEO of her father’s global energy empire – or so she thinks. When her father, Blake Carrington, summons Fallon and her brother, Steven, home in Atlanta, Fallon is horrified to learn that the reunion isn’t to announce her promotion – but rather to make the acquaintance of their stepmother-to-be, Cristal. 

My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman: George Clooney (Available from 9 February)

David Letterman is out of retirement and has returned to television with a six-episode, 60-minute Netflix talk show series, Dave’s guest this month is George Clooney and follows his interview with former US President Barack Obama. 

Black Lightning (New Episode Now Streaming)

Nine years ago, Pierce was gifted with the superhuman power to harness and control electricity, which he used to keep his hometown streets safe as the masked vigilante Black Lightning. However, after too many nights with his life and his family on the line, he left his Super Hero days behind. Almost a decade later, Pierce’s crime-fighting days are long behind him…or so he thought. 

Queer Eye: Season 1 (Now Streaming)

Kick-Ass 2 (Available from 9 February)

Dave (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), aka Kick-Ass, and Mindy (Chloë Grace Moretz), aka Hit Girl, are trying to live as normal teenagers and briefly form a crime-fighting team. After Mindy is busted and forced to retire as Hit Girl, Dave joins a group of amateur superheroes led by Col. Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey), a reformed mobster. Just as Dave and company start to make a real difference on the streets, the villain formerly known as Red Mist rears his head yet again.

Fred Armisen: Standup For Drummers (Now Streaming)

Live from San Francisco, for an audience of drummers, comedian Fred Armisen shares and demonstrates his thoughts on musical genres, drummer quirks, regional accents and more.

David Brent: Life on the Road (Available from 10 February)

Fourteen years on from the BBC mockumentary ‘The Office’ David Brent is now a travelling salesman with Lavichem, a cleaning and ladies’ personal hygiene products company. 

However, he hasn’t given up on his dream of rock stardom and is about to embark on a self-financed UK tour with his band, ‘Foregone Conclusion’.

Riverdale: Season 2 (New Episode Now Streaming)

Riverdale is back for season two and it’s darker than ever. With the shooting of Fred Andrews threatening to plunge the entire town into utter darkness, can Betty unmask the Black Hood and can Jughead escape the grip of the Southside Serpents?

Crazy Ex Girlfriend Season 3 (New Episodes Every Saturday)

Successful and driven, Rebecca Bunch seemingly has it all — an upscale apartment in Manhattan and a partnership at a prestigious law firm — but she feels like something is missing.

Beyond: Season 2 (Available from 9 February)

Now that he is out of his coma, Holden must figure out what happened to him during the past dozen years and how to survive in the world that has changed significantly while he was in his coma. But perhaps the biggest question of all is why it happened to him.

Fury (Available from 9 February)

In April 1945, the Allies are making their final push in the European theater. A battle-hardened Army sergeant named Don “Wardaddy” Collier (Brad Pitt), leading a Sherman tank and a five-man crew, undertakes a deadly mission behind enemy lines. 

Hopelessly outnumbered, outgunned and saddled with an inexperienced soldier (Logan Lerman) in their midst, Wardaddy and his men face overwhelming odds as they move to strike at the heart of Nazi Germ.
