Another beloved Goggleboxer has passed away

Fiona Frawley

It’s been a seriously sad week for the Channel 4 show.

Gogglebox have just confirmed the passing of fan favourite Andy Michaels, who first appeared on the show with his wife Carolyne and children Alex and Louis in the first episode way back in 2013, and since then had been delighting viewers with his quick quips and insightful commentary.

The retired hotelier passed away at just 61 after a short illness last weekend, surrounded by his family. In a statement shared on Twitter and Instagram, the Gogglebox team said:

Retired hotelier Andy, who brought so much wit and insight to Gogglebox, was one of the shows original cast members, appearing on the very first episode in 2013. Andy was a much loved and respected member of the Gogglebox family and he will be very sadly missed.

They also offered their condolences to Andy’s family, who have asked for privacy at this difficult time.

The news comes just a few days after Mary Cook, who was a Gogglebox fave along with partner-in-crime Marina, also passed away.

Both Mary and Andy have helped us through some dark lockdown nights over the past year or so, and we’ll sorely miss the laughs and charm they brought to the show.
