It’s one of the biggest weekends in the Irish musical calendar, and we’re delighted it’s going ahead this year.
Every October bank holiday weekend, jazz lovers flock to ~the real capital~for this much loved musical event. If you’re planning on making the trip but haven’t decided yet on a gig to go to, fear not. Here’s a selection of some great events happening as part of the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival, with tickets still available:
Jazz on a Summer’s Day, Triskel Arts Centre
A screening of Bert Stern’s award winning documentary Jazz on a Summer’s Day, which was filmed at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival. Featuring Jimmy Giuffre, Thelonious Monk, Sonny Stitt, Anita O’Day, Dinah Washington and loads more. Tickets available HERE.
Block Rockin’ Beats Live, Cork Opera House
Featuring Dec Pierce and a troupe of drummers called ‘The Hit Machine’ live on stage. According to Pierce, “It’s like a cross between Vikings, Celtic Warrior drummers and a DJ”. A spectacle for all senses that’s not to be missed. Tickets available HERE.
Bird on the Wire: The Songs of Leonard Cohen at Cork Opera House
A collective of incredible musicians led by Pauline Scanlon and The Whileaways, interpreting the music of the late great Leonard Cohen. Tickets available HERE.
Masexodus Ft. Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, The Everyman
An exploration of modern contemporary jazz sounds with 15+ musicians on stage. Tickets available HERE.
The X Collective, The Everyman
An exciting new group of international RnB, Soul and Hip Hop Allstars, fronted by producers Zapho and Emily Shaw under the umbrella of Oíche Events. A night of collaboration, creativity and dancing. Tickets available HERE.
