Laura Whitmore’s screenwriting debut Sadhbh chosen for US film festival

Sarah Finnan

A short film written by and starring Bray native Laura Whitmore, Sadhbh tells the tale of a young mother struggling to keep her life together.

A short film starring Laura Whitmore is amongst those chosen to premiere at the LA Indie Film Festival. Titled Sadhbh, the film marks the Whitmore’s first foray into the screenwriting world. Also taking on a starring role in the film, Laura plays Claire – a young mother just trying to stay afloat. A brief summary of the plot reads:

“Writer and actress Laura Whitmore tells the story of young mother Claire, who struggles to keep her life together while attempting to present a mask of strength against the judgement of the outside world. But she hides a heartbreaking secret, and sometimes accepting the truth is not an option.”

Clearly very proud of the achievement, Laura shared her delight at the good news on social media writing:

“We’ve just been selected for the LA Indie Film Festival! Last year we made a little film @sadhbhfilm that I wrote and starred in with the best team of folk! @unseendrama

“Not in a million years did I expect the incredible reception from those who’ve seen it so far. Now we’ll have a little US premiere coming soon. Thank you for all the love!”

Saying that the film is really about comparison and the pressures of social media, Laura previously described it as a “very personal project” to Grazia magazine.

“There’s this kind of perception to live up to… Every single person compares themselves. And it doesn’t matter who you are or how successful you seem to be on the outside.”
