Sucker for a good Christmas advert? Here’s a round up of some of the best of 2021 so far

Katy Thornton

Christmas is coming, which means there’s been an influx of Christmas adverts as of late, and we ain’t mad at it!

If you’re in the mood for some wholesome festive content, this list is for you. Get yourself a cup of tea or coffee and a snack, and be prepared to get all up in your feelings.

Disney

This little gem came into our lives last week, and we’re still thinking about it. The ad focuses on a new stepdad as he tries to fit in with his new step children over Christmas, without much avail initially. Luckily, he gets there in the end – we’d like to see a full feature length film on these characters. There’s some heartfelt moments, a cute dog, and a catchy song. A perfect Christmas ad.

Arnotts

This short Christmas ad is extremely sweet. After seeing a poster for the Christmas Circus at Arnotts, a little girl is enthused and begins practicing her dancing. Her lively imagination has her changing regular lifetime moments into little Christmas joys, all leading up to her mother buying her tickets to the Circus. The ad shows Christmas through the eyes of a child, with the tagline “Let your imagination lead the way this Christmas at Arnotts”.

John Lewis

This ad stole our hearts last week; an unlikely friendship blossoms between a young boy and an alien girl. The boy takes it upon himself to teach her the magic of Christmas, and it’s all sorts of adorable. John Lewis never fails to pull on the heart strings with their Christmas ad.

Marks and Spencers

Marks and Spencers knew what they were doing when they cast Tom Holland for the voice of Percy Pig. They also made a stellar casting choice with Dawn French, essentially making this one of the most iconic Christmas ads ever. Watch as Percy runs around the M&S aisles with Dawn the fairy as his guide. You’ll have the stomach grumblies and a smile on your face by the end of this one.

Aldi

There’s a new talking food item in town. Ebanana Scrooge is not best pleased when Santa chooses a mince pie to eat over him, forcing him to hate Christmas. But will a lesson from Kevin the carrot (that’s right, he’s back!) be enough to set him straight? With a backtrack of The Pogues’ “Fairytale of New York” and a redemption arc for the ages, Aldi truly knocked it out of the park with this one.
