WATCH: Irish dancers take to the streets in Galway to spread the Christmas cheer

Sarah Finnan

Christmas has arrived in the City of Tribes.

Not ones to do things in halves, the Christmas market in Galway is a highlight on the calendar each year.

Things kicked off on Friday when the lights were switched on and the market was officially opened for the season.

Now in its tenth year, it will serve up all of the usual favourites including mulled wine and chocolatey treats. The ideal companion for a whirl on the Big Wheel, which gives the best views of the city.

Not limited just to Eyre Square and the confines of the market, the magic spilled out onto the streets, extending all the way down Shop Street to the Latin Quarter.

Donning Santa hats and Christmas jumpers, merrymakers on Mainguard Street treated onlookers to trad and Irish dancing.

Posting the video to their Facebook page, Tig Choili the beloved Galway pub, encouraged everyone to journey out west for the celebrations. Judging by the above antics, it’s the place to be for all your festive needs.

You don’t have to tell me twice lads.
