This newly pedestrianised street in Cork City is getting an artistic makeover

Fiona Frawley

Once again, Cork City is excelling in the outdoor summer category. If this was the X Factor of outdoor summers, Cork would be going straight to judges houses, and most likely continuing onto the live shows.

After pedestrianising a number of streets across the city to allow for outdoor dining and drinks, an Open Road mural is in the works on Oliver Plunkett for the people of Cork to enjoy.

The mural is part of Cork’s Midsummer Festival and illustrator Fatti Burke will be working on it all week with help from some local young artists ahead of its unveiling this Sunday. So far, so playful and nostalgic looking, in typical Fatti style.

If you’re in Cork City this week you’re encouraged to call over and have a look at the work in progress, and head over to Cork Midsummer to check out what other events and happenings will be taking place as part of the festival.
