WATCH: The Lions At Fota Wildlife Park In Cork Have Been Enjoying The Snow

Kiara Keane

People across Ireland woke up to a blanket of snow this morning as the country experiences a serious cold snap.

But it looks like the lions at Fota Wildlife Park in Cork didn’t mind the freezing temperatures at all as they walked around their enclosure covered in snow today.

Staff shared a video of the Asiatic lions exploring their new surroundings and it seems that they’ve been enjoying the change of scenery.

They explained that “the animals have access to their indoor spaces and may choose to be indoors” during the snow, though the lions instead decided to lounge around outside.

Met Éireann confirmed early on Tuesday that Ireland would be hit with “heavy disruptive snow” this week and extended a status yellow snow-ice warning for the whole country until Saturday at 12pm.

Temperatures are expected to reach as low as -5 in some parts of the country in the coming days.

The wildlife park is open to the public today if you fancy visiting the lions in their new snowy surrounds but visitors have been warned to be careful out on the roads when travelling.

Staff said, ‘We urge visitors to only travel if it is safe to do so.’
